No Rajput, honourable, will ever sell his pride, learned the Mughal Emperor Akbar as he failed to instill fear into Rai Dulla Bhatti, son of Farid and the seed of Shalivahan, as he was condemned to death in a public execution. How could fear conquer the one, whom greed failed to woo at a much more tender age, when every imperial favour was rejected by the honourable grandson of Rai Sandal.
For decades he crushed the occupying Turkic horde in one battle after another. He made Mughals staying in Lahore unsafe, thereby, cutting the empire into half, forever disconnecting the west from the east. From corrupt Mughal governors and stooges he took the wealth, which was looted from the poor people of India, and rightfully gave it back to those hungry masses whom it actually belonged.
He destroyed the Mughal slave trade business, freeing mostly Brahmin and lower caste women from the clutches of slave traders who had one job, that is to fill the harems of petty Mughal officers and commanders with concubines and sex slaves. These slave traders were chased, humiliated and annihilated by the Bhatti sword.
The savior of the honour of women, Rai Dulla is remembered throughout Punjab in annual Lohri celebrations.
This is the title he earned through a life of endless sacrifices, no matter how much the destiny tested him, he came back victorious as a lion descending upon a group of well nourished lamb.
This Lohri, let us fondly remember the brightest sword of the Rajputs of Punjab.
