What else could explain the undying courage with which Isa Khan defended the country he married, far away from where he was supposed to be a native of?
Various campaigns and battles consolidated his position as the de facto ruler of Bengal, the leader of the Baro Bhuiyans. He stood as the mountain against Mughal aggressors. He defeated and humiliated celebrated Mughal generals like Shahbaz Khan and Khan Jahan.
Where war could not settle score in his favor, he used diplomacy. An alliance with Man Singh prevented Mughal annexation of Bengal.
To the very last day of his life, he prevented Bengal from annexation by the Mughals. Bengali people remained free as long as he was alive. In his honour, Bangladesh named their largest naval base BNS Issa Khan.
