Malalai of Maiwand

Malalai of Maiwand
"With a drop of my sweetheart's blood,
Shed in defense of the Motherland,
Will I put a beauty spot on my forehead,
Such as would put to shame the rose in the garden!"
- Roared the lioness of Maiwand with the lifeless body of her fiance decorated with the medals of martyrdom by the volley of British cannon fire. She took the Afghan flag from the fallen flag-bearer and again reminded the warriors that they are the last line of defense for the honour of the Afghan motherland which nourished them into the warriors they are today:
"Young love! If you do not fall in the battle of Maiwand,
By Allah, someone is saving you as a symbol of shame!"
And then fell Malalai, washing the vile presence of the enemy in her motherland with her blood, joining her father and fiance in the ranks of those blessed by the opportunity to pay the debt to the country of their ancestors with their heads. Aged just 18 her grave is a shrine for everybody true to their motherland.
