Maharani Gayatri Devi: The true iron-lady of India

While we remember Gayatri Devi as an icon of grace and timeless beauty, what we often forget is Her Highness stood against Indira Gandhi and her tyranny when even the 'greatest leaders' of the subcontinent were nothing more than those who were busy polishing Indira's boots.

Her Highness was the earliest member of the first opposition party- Swatantrata Party. In a time much of the world was falling to the red banners of the USSR, she supported a libertarian party. Her opposition to congress was instrumental in later rise of Jan Sangh and the BJP.

Let's remember the iron lady of India, the woman who stood up to Indira's bullying for all of us.
